If you’ve been looking for motivation to go after your dreams, look no further. April proves that if you combine passion, hard work, a killer running outfit, and some luck nothing can stop you. April landed a job at the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) after graduating from Indiana University in 2011. Her dream had always been to work at a non-profit and MDA’s mission to ‘save and improve the lives of those fighting muscle diseases’ grabbed her. However, the role she was destined for at MDA did not exist yet.
After a couple months on the job, April met a handful of individuals who wanted to run and raise money for MDA. “At the time, we didn’t have an official program to support them, so I created one.” Though her words make the task sound simple, creating a fundraising program from scratch is one of the most time-consuming and risky endeavors a non-profit can take. In true April fashion she wasn’t fazed. Instead she dove in headfirst and continued to remind herself “some of the best things in life come from having courage and stepping outside of fear.”
Since Team Momentum’s creation in 2013, April has grown the team of runners to 350 people strong and is confident it will double this year. Through this process she also inspired someone she wasn’t planning on: herself. She discovered a new found love for running and learned to trust her instincts. Above all, she discovered that “hard work can and does pay off”, the same message My Favorite Outfit instills in every girl we work with.
April’s Favorite Outfit (when she’s not running)
“I love accessories as well, namely my panama hat, a watch and collection of bracelets from close friends. My favorite outfit makes me feel confident and versatile.”
