Middle School Programming
MFO uses in-school workshops in Chicago's underserved communities to educate girls on how clothing and self-esteem intersect. The girls put what they learn to practice when they are allowed to shop for a free outfit from donated clothing. The program also incentivizes students to attend school more regularly.
New for next school year, these workshops will be split into two parts and will teach girls how to recapture their individuality and improve their self-esteem. Our lessons cover 4 key elements:
- Understanding self-esteem
- Celebrating your individuality
- Self-expression vs. self- objectification
- Finding your personal style
High School Programming
With backing from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, MFO is piloting a high school program during the 2016/2017 school year to use fashion as a vehicle for college readiness and mentoring. The program will teach groups of students the skills to become ideal candidates for college fashion programs.
Our goals for this program are to:
- Achieve 100% high school graduation for participating students
- Reach 100% college acceptance and enrollment
- Increase attendance to 90% for participating students
The people who made it Possible
Thank you so much for your incredible generosity and support. It is with your efforts and donations that makes all MFO does possible. With your support, this year 541 girls lives have been impacted forever. With your continued assistance, we can help every at-risk girl in the Chicago area find the confidence she needs to succeed in school and beyond!
And of course, none of this excellent work could have been accomplished without the assistance of our wonderful volunteers. If you're interested in participating at one of our boutiques next school year, follow our get involved page for more details!
Thank you for opening your doors to us every Wednesday and giving us the opportunity to help mold our girls into smart, confident, and college-ready women. Your students mean the world to us.
